About Us

You and Me Pre-School is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, registered with the Charities commission. The Charity runs for the benefit of the children, their families and the community, and is a not for profit organisation.  The Pre-School's object is the development and education of children and young people in particular by:

(1) promoting their care and safety;

(2) promoting their education and promoting parental involvement;

(3) promoting their health and wellbeing;

(4) providing services to support them and their families and carers;

(5) providing services to individuals holding membership of the CIO; and

(6) furthering the aims of the Pre-school Learning Alliance.

You and Me Pre School started in 1982 in a house in Aldridge Close. The Church then bought a Portakabin and it was placed next to Countryside's Yard in Chelmer Village Way, opposite Sheppard Drive. This was then used for a Toddler Group and Pre-School, until it was replaced by a larger porta-cabin which was used for church services as well.

When the church was built in Ashton Place, the porta-cabin was moved to the site it currently stands. Initially Pre-school was for every morning for 15 children and there were two 'Rising 5's' sessions for 8 children held in the church coffee lounge. Now we run 10 sessions a week, each for 20 children a session due to the expansion of Chelmer Village over those years. We estimate 600-700 children have attended the Pre-School in the last 28 years.

We are affiliated to The Church of Our Saviour, we are run independently by Management Committee.  The Pre-School operates from a purposely designed Portakabin set in a large safe, enclosed garden, both of which we have the sole use.  We offer education and care on a termly basis for children below statutory School age and from the age of two years.

Children shortly to start school are offered specially tailored sessions, ‘Ducks’, which tend to have more structured activities and less free play time.  The other sessions, ’Ducklings’, have mixed age children.
