At You and Me Pre-School, we are passionate about supporting all children to reach their full and unique potential, helping them to be the best version of themselves.  Our curriculum is guided by the four overarching principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS):

  1. Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
  2. Children learn to be resilient, strong and independent through postive relationships.
  3. Children learn and develop best in enabling environments with support from adults who respond to their individual interests and needs, helping them to build their learning over time.  Strong partnership between practitioners, parents and carers enhance this development.
  4. The important of learning and development: children develop and learn at different rates and we celebrate and support each child's individual journey.

Every child is at the heart of what we do.  We build on the experience children bring with them and provide new opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need for the future.

We know every child learns in their own way and at their own pace.  Our staff carefully guide, develop and support learning by focusing on playing and exploring, active learning and thinking creatively, helping children become curious, confident and ready to learn.

We listen to children, respect their ideas and create a safe, stimulating environment where they can thrive.  By understanding each child's routines, interests and preferences, we make settling in smooth and enjoyable.

Through close partnerships with parents and careful observations, we ensure every child is supported, challenged and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Unique Child

Positive Relationships

Our curriculum is delivered in a warm, caring atmosphere with positive interactions at every step.  The children's well-being is at the heart of everything we do - it is our top priority.

We aim to nurture kind, caring and polite members of the community.  Our approach also focuses on helping children become resilient, confident and independent, giving them the skills to face challenges and thrive in their learning and daily lives.

Enabling Environments

We provide varied and stimulating environments that spark children's curiosity, creativity and sense of wonder.  Our staff reflect on their practice, observing and evaluating how well the learning spaces (inside and outside) support children's engagement.  They adapt the environment and learning opportunities to match each child's interests and abilities, helping each child reach their maximum potential.

Our approach includes progressive questioning to develop thinking, understanding and language for reasoning, alongside structure routines that give children clear expectations and a sense of security.  Weekly planning ensures all areas of learning are covered and activities aim to suit children at different stages of development.  We balance adult-led and child-initiated activities to encourage exploration and independent learning.

We value strong partnerships with parents, supporting shared learning between home and pre-school.  Our aim is to help children use their environment constructively, link experiences, develop curiosity, persistence and a love of learning.

Learning and Development

Our curriculum is based on the 7 areas of learning in the Statutory Framework:

Prime Areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

Specific Areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understand the World
  • Expressive Arts and Designs

The prime areas are the base of everything we do, with communication and language supporting all areas of learning.  We encourage a strong love of books, with books available throughout the pre-school to boost speach, language, literacy and vocabulary development.

Our continuous provision is designed to support children's understanding of the world while giving them opportunities to express themselves creatively through art, design and imaginative play.  We plan for potential, carefully designing weekly and termly activities to ensure a wide range of experiences that spark curiosity, build skills and provide a clear structure and progression of learning.

Our goal is to help children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to be as ready as possible for school.
